IT’S BEST TO TRIM OFF BEARDS or MOUSTACHES with CLIPPERS first,
then use a WET RAZOR -
The Quik Shave Razor is able to cut hair better when it is wet. Most
shaving damage results from using dull blades, the wrong shaving products
or a lack of preparation.
So relax, and get ready to wet shave your face the right way with Quik
Shave.
NEVER DRY SHAVE WITH QUIK SHAVE™ -
No, no, no! Just don’t do it. It’s b-a-d for your skin and besides,
it can cause ingrown hairs. Use water!
DO NOT SHAVE IN DIM LIGHTS! -
Proper lighting is very important for safe shaving. Use higher
wattage light bulbs around the sink area, or turn on the bathroom flood
light for best results. Either way, don’t shave with Quik Shave in
the dark!
USE DOUBLE BLADE RAZOR CARTRIDGES with ALOE STRIPS -
Although some claim that a single blade razor cartridge is less irritating
to use for shaving, you’ll find this won’t be the case with Quik Shave
and its lubricant-stripped, double blades. Also, take the time to
prepare your skin prior to shaving, and use a moisturizing shave cream
or gel.
USE A MIRROR WHEN YOU SHAVE YOUR BEARD -
It’s hard to get a good look at where the hair is on your jaw line
or around your ears, so use a mirror. This way, you won’t miss anything.
If you prefer shaving in the shower, do so with an anti-fog mirror.
"PREP" YOUR FACE BEFORE SHAVING OFF YOUR BEARD -
There are too many dangerous, painful risks involved in shaving off
your beard without proper preparation. Razor burn bumps, itchy dark
scabs and blotchy red skin on your bare face are just a few. Follow our
instructions for the best, smoothest results.
TO START, YOU'LL NEED TO GET A FACE "BUZZ" -
You will probably want to do this procedure in the bathroom; and if
so, spread newspapers out over the floor to catch your hair clippings.
To start, trim off as much of your beard or moustache as you can with an
electric trimmer, OR a pair of very sharp scissors. Keep it simple and
go easy. Start at the front of the neck, then do
each of the sides, and work your way around to the front of your face.
THEN, TAKE A WARM SHOWER -
To properly shave your beard without problems, you will have to properly
lubricate and moisturize your hair and skin. Therefore, after trimming
your facial hair, head for the shower. Relax and enjoy the warm water and
steam for about 5-10 minutes. This should be enough time to soften your
hair and skin. Warm water opens the pores of your skin, softens the hairs,
and makes shaving a lot easier.
PREP YOUR FACE BEFORE SHAVING -
With very warm water, wet your face with a washcloth. Lightly soap
the washcloth and with slight pressure, glide the cloth upward against
the growth of hair on your face, starting at the neck and go upwards. This
will make your hair stand up for easier shaving with Quik Shave. Rinse.
DO NOT USE EXTREMELY HOT WATER, because this is drying to the skin and
damaging to your pores. Rinse off the washcloth and wring it out, then
place it on your beard area. Hold it in place for 1-2 minutes. Doing all
of this will help guard against razor burn by softening the hairs.
LUBRICATE THE SKIN and HAIR ON YOUR FACE -
Splash a layer of warm water on your face, then apply a 1/4" to 1/2"
coat of shaving cream or gel onto your former beard. Wait about 3-5
minutes; this will allow the moisturizing agents to really work into your
skin and hair. While you wait, get your Quik Shave Razor ready to go.
PREPARE YOUR RAZOR -
Use a new Quik Shave Razor, if needed, and run very hot water over
the razor blades first, before you start shaving.
USE A QUALITY SKIN-FRIENDLY SHAVING CREAM or GEL -
Don’t use regular bathroom bar soap or liquid soap to shave your beard
-- they won’t lubricate you enough! Get yourself a special formula
shaving cream or gel with skin protectors and moisturizers. These
work best because they increase the wetness of your hair by holding water
and moisture in place, which helps the razor’s ability to cut. There are
many varieties on the market today, and they are not expensive.
TRY A SHAVING BRUSH to APPLY YOUR SHAVING CREAM or GEL -
Using a shaving brush with natural bristles to lather your beard will
help lift the hairs on your face for a better shave. If you don’t have
one, apply the cream or gel with your fingers. Remember, don’t use
regular bathroom bar soap for shaving cream because it’s not lubricating
enough, plus soap tends to dry out your skin afterwards.
KEEP STILL and STEADY -
Relax, breathe steadily, and pay attention to what you are doing.
RINSE OFF YOUR RAZOR FREQUENTLY -
Be sure to rinse off your Quik Shave, preferably after each stroke,
to remove cut hairs and extra lather. This will prevent the blades from
becoming clogged and can save you from accidental nicks.
SHAVE WITH ONE HAND -
Don’t use two hands to drag the Quik Shave Razor across your beard.
One is all you need.
USE YOUR FREE HAND to MAKE YOUR SKIN TAUT -
Assist your skin by lightly pressing into your skin near the area you
will be shaving, prior to sliding your Quik Shave Razor across your face
with your other hand. This helps give you a closer shave.
SHAVE OFF YOUR BEARD in the RIGHT DIRECTION: YOUR WAY -
There really is no right or wrong direction for shaving (other than
horizontally), because each man’s skin and hair are different. What is
good for one may not be the same for another. Some men lather up
and shave in the direction of the hair growth on their heads for best results,
not against the grain of their whiskers. Others will shave both ways
and have no problems. OK, we all know it seems like you’d get a better
shave
by going against the grain, but this actually can damage the hair shaft.
But don’t worry- if you experience irritation by shaving against the direction
of your hair and want to switch, spend the next 3 weeks shaving in the
other direction to retrain the growth pattern of your beard. Soon, you’ll
be getting a smoother shave with no difficulty.
DON’T FORGET TO SHAVE in AREAS YOU CAN’T EASILY SEE -
Areas like this are under, or behind the ears, on the jaw line, etc.
For areas such as
underneath your nose -- you can utilize a "one-bladed" technique with
Quik Shave.
CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOU FINISH -
Glide your fingertips across your face to feel for any places that
you may have missed before you stop.
WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED SHAVING -
When you are finished, wet your washcloth with lukewarm water (not
hot, not cold) and wring out. Place it on your face to help close
the pores of your skin. Then pat off (don’t rub) your face with a soft
dry towel.
RINSE OFF YOUR QUIK SHAVE RAZOR and LET IT AIR DRY -- (blades pointing
downward) -
Rinse your Quik Shave one last time and allow it to air dry. Do not
wipe the blades dry with a towel. The theory goes that if you leave
the blades pointed downward after each use...they'll remain sharper, longer.
STABILIZE YOUR SKIN AFTER SHAVING -
It is very important that you put a skin moisturizer or after shave
balm on your face immediately after shaving and toweling off because your
skin will probably feel a little vulnerable then. If you have a dried-out
feeling, a nourishing moisturizer is a must. Some ultra macho guys like
to use an alcohol-based aftershave because any cuts or nicks they have
will heal quickly, but this also stings and dries out their skin. Oil-based
lotions can clog pores, so use a gentle product that is alcohol and
oil free, like aloe vera gel, a great natural product to use.
IF YOU GET A NICK or CUT -
Don’t panic! Dab a moistened styptic pencil on the damaged area,
OR tear off a tiny piece of tissue paper and place onto the cut. Black
Pepper may also help to stop bleeding. After this dries (5-10 minutes),
you can remove the tissue and rub a little aloe vera over the spot. If
you get a major cut, go ahead and use a small bandage. Keep in mind
that most cuts happen after you glide the razor across your skin and lift
it from your face, not during your sweep. Avoid using Quik Shave horizontally
against the skin.
DEALING WITH INGROWN HAIRS -
Just in case you ever discover ingrown hair on your face, steam your
skin with a warm cloth for a minute, like a hot towel. Then, gently
use a loofah sponge or Buff Puff pad to exfoliate the skin area with ingrown
hair. Now shave the area. For hairs that are ingrown deep down in
your skin, you’ll need to sterilize a pair of needle-nosed tweezers with
rubbing alcohol and individually lift each ingrown hair out of its follicle.
Get assistance from another if you have trouble seeing. When finished,
wipe the area with alcohol and shave with Quik Shave.
EXFOLIATE YOUR FACE TWICE A WEEK BEFORE YOU SHAVE -
When you remove the top layers of dead skin on your face prior to shaving,
you’ll help the skin stay clear and get a cleaner, closer shave.
This also prevents ingrown hair problems. You can exfoliate during
your shower. Use a loofah sponge, Buff Puff pad, or a special facial scrub
from the skin care product aisle at the drug store. |
